Dear Reader,
Do you ever get sick of reading the same book over and over to your child? Are there books that you (and perhaps your child) can memorize over and over again? When I was small, I remember taking pride in knowing Goodnight Moon by heart. There’s a reason why children thrive on reading the same books again: when there’s little to their day that they can control, they know that they can count on a routine bedtime with reading a beloved book that may give them comfort. Reading the same books repeatedly, especially if your child is between the ages of 2.5-5 years old, does help with their language acquisition. It boosts vocabulary, phonemic awareness, and comprehension (more research here).
Some of the book my children love reading over and over again are (I’m probably missing some here): The House in the Night, Moo Baa La La La, Pout Pout Fish, and Edamame & Edapapa*. In fact, I probably know some of them by heart as well.
Are there books that you read over and over again? Personally, I’m not a re-reader of novels because there are so many out there! I only remember reading a few books twice because I read it in high school and I wanted to experience reading it as an adult.
What books do you read to your children over and over again? Are there books that you enjoy reading repeatedly? Leave your comments below!
And of course, if you have any questions related to reading, please leave them below and I may answer them in the next newsletter!
